So, you write very well. And you write a lot. On your site. Or your blog.

The problem is that no one ever sees your amazing articles because your site has very few links to it, and so it never shows up in Google searches for the topics you write about. A waste of talent.

Let’s take a look at the following idea, which will enable many more people to read your articles, and also get you links so that eventually people will actually be reading your articles on YOUR site.

Guest blogging = writing a post for someone else’s blog, usually with the understanding that you will include a few links (not a lot – bear that in mind) to your site in your bio and maybe even in the actual content if it’s relevant.

Where do you find the right place to blog?

One helpful tool is MyBlogGuest. This service allows owners of blogs who are looking for guest posts, and writers who are looking to submit guest posts to find each other. I actually just signed up for this, so I can’t speak yet about how helpful it’s been, but it was started by Ann Smarty, a big name in the SEO industry, and has been recommended by some big SEO blogs as a good resource. If you’ve used it successfully, you can share with us all in the comments below.

After that, try doing Google searches, using your keyword followed by phrases like: “guest post” “guest article” “write for us” (a full list of ideas is at the end of this post). Not all of them are going to be relevant, and even those that are relevant may not be great quality blogs, but after going through a few search results pages you should have some ideas of where to try. Definitely use some tool (SEOQuake toolbar, SEOMoz toolbar) to get an idea of the relative strength of the pages for the sake of linkbuilding, and visit the blog to get an idea of the quality of the blog and the user engagement, if you’re not just writing purely for a link.

Let’s see some examples:

To find a spot for a guest post on SEO, try looking for the keyphrase: seo “write for us”. Here are some of the results:

All of the first three appear to be decent, relevant sources. Let’s take a look at the first one:

Jackpot. Their submission guidelines fill an entire page, but if you want a serious forum on a strong site, this seems like a great option.

What if you’re a life coach and you want to share your wisdom in an article (and get back a link to your life coaching site)?

With this search query, we got one site which is actively looking for guest articles:

And the titles of the rest of the sites show that they do, at least on occasion, publish guest posts. Do they always? Will they publish yours? There’s no guarantee, and you’re going to have to do the work of looking through the results and filtering, but at least you have a pool of potential blogs.

Let’s try one last query – for those of you baking experts:

So these first results are entirely guest posts. Let’s take the third as an example:

Again, while not as direct as a page of actual submission guidelines for a guest post, these blogs do have potential for contacting them and suggesting a guest post. While doing queries for this blog post, I even got a result that was a comment on a blog saying that the commenter would love the blog author to do a guest post on the commenter’s blog. So that commenter might be good to write to and say: I also write about cake decorating, and here’s my blog: www.cakedecoratingsecrets.com. Would it be helpful if I gave you a guest post on how to use different colors of buttercream icing to make a cake that looks like waves crashing onto a beach?

And with that we close with a word to the wise: your main goal may be link building, true. But you also want to give a good impression of your writing to a new audience and to the blog owner. Do your research on the potential blog target before you aim and fire out an offer. Make sure your offers of guest blog posts fit right in with the topic and style of the blog.

Happy writing!

***

Here’s your promised full list of search queries, taken from our Link Building Guide:

keyword “guest blogger” OR “guest post” OR “guest article” OR “guest column”

keyword “become a contributor” OR “contribute to this site”

keyword “write for us” OR “write for me”

keyword inurl:category/guest

Have any others? Share them with us in the comments?

You want your visitors to share your content with every single person they know, right? And in the digital age, otherwise known as the Age of Impatience, if they like the content and then only have to click once, maybe add a word or two, and click “send”, that’s reasonable. If they have to log on to their Twitter account (fine, it’s probably open), shorten your URL (that’s probably at least two clicks, if not a copy-paste or two), write a tweet and press send – they may not make it that far.

So we want to make it easy. Adding Facebook and Twitter Share buttons (and LinkedIn, StumbleUpon, Digg, etc.) that are obvious, simple to use and even tell you how many times the post has been shared – is the solution.

But how do you add them easily and quickly? After all, we are living in the digital age, other known as…

The following few paragraphs are the story of how I found the information I’m about to share with you on adding easy Facebook and Twitter share buttons, and it contains a bonus ”How Do I SEO” tip hidden inside: if I see something I like on another site, how do I get it on my site? If you’re extremely impatie… efficient with your time, feel free to scroll down directly to the picture of the man pumping his hand in victory below.

About two months ago, I tried to put this type of Share buttons on our blog. I spent a few hours trying to work with the Tweetmeme buttons and place it on our blog posts, but I couldn’t get them to format on the site the way I wanted (apparently I needed more advanced web developer skills than I have – although that’s not saying a lot), so I put it on the back burner until I could ask someone with more programming experience.

Today I was inspired to try again by a blog post by Naomi Elbinger about how to get more readers for your blog posts. She recommended having the buttons so encourage your readers to share it… and thus draw more readers. I checked out what kind of share buttons Naomi had, and they looked neat and nicely formatted. Taking a look at the code for her blog post (right-click on the page and press “view page source”), I searched for “twitter” and pressed “next” in the find box until I got to what looked like code for a Twitter share button. I saw that the buttons came from a plugin called “Really Simple Share.”

(Yes, I know it’s cut off – but if I made it smaller you wouldn’t be able to read it.)

I put “really simple share twitter” into Google and one of the first results was a WordPress plugin page for a plugin called “Really Simple Share.” Yay – it’s a WordPress plugin and our site is built on WordPress – fantastic!

Go to your WordPress site admin dashboard.

You will get this screen:

Then:

Then:

You will get a screen telling you that the plugin has been installed. Click the “Activate Now” link.

Okay, that’s it, you’re done. Right?

Well, kind of. But unless your site is a series of blog posts, you could end up with some rather ugly things like this:

Oops. How do we get those off – and fast, before someone *sees* that page? (Yes, that went through my head.)

Follow me to part two! Don’t worry – it’s not hard, and we’re almost done.

Click again on “Plugins” on the side menu to get to the list of all the plugins on your site. Scroll down until you find “Really simple Facebook Twitter share buttons.” (Hint – the plugins are in alphabetical order.)

You will get the following settings screen:

Which Share Buttons:

I picked Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn – but you pick whatever works for you.

What Pages to Show the Buttons On:

I put it just on our blog “single posts”, but at some point I might decide to put it on our pages also. (just not the homepage – definitely not the homepage…) Interesting point – the count seems to work retroactively, meaning it counts actual shares and not just those via the share button. This comes from the fact that when I had just put the buttons on, some appeared with numbers on.

Position of Buttons:

You might pick below if you think having the share immediately visible when the reader finished reading the post would encourage sharing, and you might pick above if you usually have a large number of shares and you want to give the visitor the impression that your post/page is really popular, to encourage them to read on. And you might pick both if you want both benefits.

There are a few other options about the appearance and size of the Facebook and Twitter button, but those are pretty self-explanatory, and the default options work pretty well.

[For anyone who wants more technical details about the plugin, this is the WordPress Plugin Page for Really Simple Share.]

That’s it. You’re done. Really. Go and enjoy your new share buttons. If you want to see how they look, take a peek below. And you can always try ours out, to make sure they work. :)

You write blog posts. You write content for your business website.

You write blog posts. You write content for your business website. You try to get into the minds of your visitors to predict what they want to see and provide it. But are you on the right track?

Here’s a simple way to discover what your visitors really want to see, using Google Analytics.

Many websites have a “Search” bar, that lets their visitors search for the content they want to find. By seeing what your visitors are asking to find, you can see if you have the content they are looking for. If not, that’s good content to produce. Even if you do, that may be content you want to produce more of. Your visitors are telling you exactly what they want!

So how do you listen in on their search queries?

First, enable Site Search tracking in Google Analytics. Go to your Analytics account.

(If you have multiple profiles, make sure you clicked the right profile to edit.)

Here’s the screen you’ll get:

Scroll down to the section on Site Search:

What’s the “Query Parameter”?

It’s the letter or string of letters that your site search uses in the URL to signify the search term that was entered by your visitor. How do you find it? Just do a search on your site and look at the URL of the search results. The letter immediately before the term you searched for is the query parameter.

For example, if you would search for “social media” on our site, the search results would have the following URL:

http://www.debi-z.com/index.php?s=social+media

“s” in this case is our query parameter. Common parameters include “s”, “q” and “search”.

So we would put “s” into the box above.

Make sure you save all your changes, and then wait for the data to start coming in.

After a few days have passed, go into your Analytics and click “Content” then “Site Search” then “Search Terms” on the sidebar menu.

You’ll get the following table:

Check out the list of search terms visitors used and how many searches there were for that term. Do you have content that covers those searches? It might be worth doing a search on your site for some of the top terms and seeing what really comes up in the search results. For one of our clients, a sporting goods manufacturer, we kept seeing people searching for “care instructions” and variations thereof, and when we actually tried searching for those terms, we realized that the search function on their site only searched the product listings and not any of the other content. On our recommendation, they installed a new site search function so that their visitors could find the content they were looking for.

Just remember – through site search your visitors are telling you exactly what they want to see to engage with your site. Are you going to listen?

Following on the heels of the introduction of our Link Building Guide earlier this week, here’s another idea for gaining exposure – and possibly links – for your blog, via that ubiquitous site – Facebook.

If you can write a blog post where you speak highly of the products or services of a well-known brand with a Facebook presence, there’ s the chance that you could get the brand to promote your post to all of its followers. Let’s take a look:

Our example is Simplehuman, a company which makes house supplies – garbage cans, laundry baskets, dishracks, etc. They have a Facebook following of 2920 people (as of today).

On February 22, one of their fans wrote this on their wall:

On February 23, Simplehuman reposted the link:

I don’t know how many Facebook friends Elka Karl has (most of her profile info is not available to just anyone on Facebook), but my guess is that it’s less than 2920. Even if it’s not, it’s certainly not the same 2920 people that are fans of Simplehuman. When Simplehuman reposted about Elka’s blog post, she got much wider exposure for that blog post.

What we can learn from Elka: if there’s a company whose products or services you like and they have a presence on Facebook, write a blog post about it and then post it on their wall. If they like it, they may repost it. It’s good publicity for them, and it’s good blog exposure for you. Everyone wins!

Any other good – or outlandish – blog exposure tips out there?

Edit: One of the numbers (of Simplehuman fans) read 2909 instead of 2920. That was actually because they gained 11 fans from yesterday when we started writing the post to today when we finished and when we changed the numbers we missed one. May we all have such fan growth…

You can tell that I’ve only been blogging for 2 months…

I got up this morning, went to my computer, had a look at my email and twitter, and discovered what makes a die-hard blogger. It’s getting home at 10 or 11 PM from the NBN (Nefesh B’Nefesh) 1st International Jewish Bloggers Convention and blogging about it before going to bed!

As you can guess, I didn’t blog about it last night, although that could be partly due to the fact that I decided to walk home (1 hour 20 minutes), after which blogging was really the last thing on my mind.

Anyway, back to the convention. Firstly, it was impressive. There were 200 bloggers in the room, and another 1000 bloggers listening in over the web for the nearly 5 hours of the convention. I raise my hat (figuratively) to the organizers, for pulling off a feat like that.

And before I continue, thanks to Jacob Richman for the photos.

The Agenda

There were 2 panels on the agenda. The first was called “Taking JBlogging to the Next Level”, and the second was “Building Israel One Post at a Time”. Being completely new to the work of Jewish Blogging, or “Israeli Blogging”, as Oleh Girl called it, I was totally amazed by how many people are blogging about Israel.

Each of the bloggers on the panels was asked to say a bit about how they started their blogs, and for quite a few it was “out of sheer laziness” as Treppenwitz quipped. Of course, lazy is the very last thing you can call the prolific bloggers from the panel and audience, but in context, it makes sense – lots of people start blogs to let their friends and families know what going on with their new job, new city, new country, health situation, or anything else, and it saves them having to write to, or phone, each and every one of their families and friends.

Treppenwitz also explained what “Treppenwitz” means – you know what it’s like to think of that witty repartee 10 seconds after you’ve slammed down the phone or walked out of the door? That feeling of “Damn, why didn’t I think of saying <whatever I though of too late>?”… well that’s Treppenwitz!

Apart from the panels, there was THE GUEST, Ex prime-minister Binyamin (Bibi) Netanyahu, who it turns out actually has a blog (hebrew), but he said he doesn’t have time to write, and he doesn’t like using ghostwriters. The best part of Bibi’s talk just had to be the first words. He turned to the panel, and asked

“My Urban Kvetch?”… “Jewlicious?”…

To which Jewlicious replied “Netanyahu?” (ok, maybe you had to be there to get it)

After the break was a light commedy performance by FrumSatire (I like him, he uses the same WordPress theme as I do!), followed by a presentation by Zavi Apfelbaum, Director of Brand Management at the Foreign Ministry, who talked about “Branding Israel – From Vision to Reality”. Donna – where where you? She could have used your help!

So, lets start with a summary of the panels. Then anyone who wants hear a bit about what Bibi and Zavi said can find it at the end !!

A Summary of the Panels

How to Promote your Blog (a.k.a. Taking JBlogging to the Next Level), moderated by Esther Kustanowitz of My Urban Kvetch and JDaters Anonymous

Don’t promote if it’s about promoting your ego!! It’s OK to promote if it’s for A Cause or Your Agenda, or to help you make a living …. this was the start we got from “Hirhurim – Musings”.

However, if you MUST promote your blog, put your blog URL at the end of your emails, send it to the Jewish and Israeli blog aggregators (like JRant), and email your posts to people who might be interested (but don’t overdo it).

Jewlicious, a blog born out of wanting to show young people that you can be a “Cool” Jew and still be in touch with Jewish Tradition and Israel, kind of a daily dose of Traditional Judaism. They organize Festivals and get Jews to come to Israel and relate to their Jewish Identities. I think they’re definitely “Cool”. Anyway, David (sorry – didn’t catch your surname)’s tips for growing your blog: Being passionate about what you write about, being part of the blogging community, link to blogs you like on your blogroll, interact with other blogs by having ongoing conversations, real-world interaction.

David Bogner of Treppenwitz: You have to love what you’re doing, be nice on your blog, don’t be too controversial (you can do that on other peoples blogs !!!), visit other blogs, and feed your blog because you love it.

Carl from IsraelMatzav, the only political blog on either of the panels, which started off as a mailing list called “Tachlis” for helping new immigrants to Israel. Carl’s main suggestion was to try and get your blog picked up by one of the big blogs. He emails his posts to Little Green Footballs as Spinoff Links, HotAir, and Gateway Pundit.

Building Israel One Post At a Time, moderated by Yishai Fleisher (kumah) was the 2nd panel. News, he said, is about negativity – that’s what sells. Blogging is about the real news – the real life of Israel is in the hundreds of blogs – the shuk, kindergartens, the cats! He asked the panel to mention how they are helping get the message out, and “making aliyah” every day.

Gila, author of My Shrapnel was the first up. She is an amazing woman – you MUST read her blog, especially the introduction pages. Gila’s main point was that she doesn’t write in order to help Israel’s PR, she writes to write. She immigrated to live in a normal place. She lives here. She volunteers here. She works and pays taxes here. It’s normal life. That’s it.

Next up was Yisrael Meidad who writes My Right Word. His message is the 3 Ms: Magnetize, Motivate and Mobilize.

Oleh Girl wants secular Americans to know what it’s like in Israel (some people who’ve read her blog have made aliyah), and she also wants to reach out to the non-Jewish world who can support us. Her tip was to speak in the language of your audience, and not propaganda-speak.

Treppenwitz said that bloggers are doing a good job of showing people what the real Israel is like, so that they don’t just see Israel through rose-tinted glasses. Israel is like a mosaic – when you look real close, each bit may not be very pretty, but when you look at it from a distance, it’s beautiful.

Last but by no means least, was Benji Lovitt, a comedian and author of WhatWarZone, who really is funny. He came on Aliya 2 years ago this week, towards the end of the 2nd Lebanon war, and started his blog as “Hasbara” (explaning the situation). Then he added humour. His tip was to find avenues to get your message across, like to Jewish places around the world. An example is to get on the JPost blogroll.

Bibi Netanyahu

Bibi turned up in the middle of the first panel, and talked about the history of rights to the Land of Israel, his main point being that if you want to argue about rights, you need to know the history. Many people are only familiar with the history of the Jews in Israel up till the destruction of the 2nd temple, and don’t realize that the Jewish population of Israel was the majority until the end of the 8th Century. He talked about Mark Twain’s visit to Palestine in 1867, in which he called it “a barren land”, and of Arther Penrhyn Stanley who visited in 1880 and said pretty much the same.

The rest of Bibi’s talk was “how important it is for Israeli bloggers to come to Israel”, “New immigrants have the opportunity to influence the Jewish future, to secure the prosperity of the state, to jumpstart the momentum, and improve the educational system”, and “no, the government hasn’t thought of about using blogs for pro-Israeli PR”. Of course, there was the usual dose of politics, changing the governmental structure, etc. etc. etc.

Zavi Apfelbaum

Zavi told us that there is a 2-year plan in place, with some PR Guru, to define the Brand of Israel, by using focus groups etc. She showed us videos of focus groups that were arranged in America, in which people were asked about going to “House Parties” in 40-50 different countries around the world. It turns out that what Israel is like has a terribly negative image in the eyes of “Main Street USA”. They may be very pro-Israel, but they don’t look at Israel as an attractive place to visit, and many think that they wouldn’t be welcome at an Israeli house party!!

I, for one, was shocked at the negativity, especially as compared to the image they had of other countries. My friend and fellow blogger Devra wasn’t surprised at all – she’s from Kansas, and says that my background (I’m from Golders Green - the quintessential Jewish neighbourhood in London, and have lived in Israel for 30 years) means that I never came into contact with “regular” people.

Zavi caused a slight upset when she started giving a few examples of what types of Persona the foreign ministry is looking at for “The Brand of Israel”: Passion, Fusion, Ingenuity. One of the bloggers in the room got very upset and started shouting “Israel is a Jewish Country” over and over again, as in – why do you need any other brand than that? It certainly made for some excitement!

OK, that’s more than enough. I had a great time (by the way, the food was also excellent, and the shmoozing was a highlight).

I first heard about Digital Eve, “a unique women’s organization about technology, creativity and community” from Nancy Clayman, when I mentioned to her that I was planning to open my own business. Nancy, a freelancer for many years, was a “Deva”, or “DEI” (a.k.a. member of Digital Eve Israel), and she highly recommended that I join up too.

Digital Eve has 20 chapters, 17 of them in the US and Canada, one in Japan, one in the United Kingdom, and of course, there just had to be one here in Israel.

The Israel chapter consists of an email list of more than 1200 professional and very active members, covering a wide spectrum of the Israeli Hi-Tech industry, supporting services, and business in general.

Devas use the list for job-hunting, employee search, asking and receiving advice, looking for suppliers, promoting their own businesses (that’s allowed once a quarter, or in reply to a question), and promoting their favourite charities - ”Care & Share” emails are collated and sent out at the beginning of each month by the tireless steering board members, who also moderate the list, thus keeping the dialogue and posts at the highest professional level.

Although an organization by women for women, there are quite a lot of honorary male “Devas” too.

One of them is Jacob Share, author of JobMob, which is “about bringing together job seekers and jobfinders to find jobs in Israel and all over the world”. As a thank you to DEI, which he calls “the best English mailing list in Israel for professionals”, Jacob recently posted a list of Digital Eve Israel Blogs, including screen shots of each blog, and icon links to the bloggers’ social media profiles.

Yours truly is on the list, as are 19 other bloggers (so far), and I recommend that you check them out – I’ve already added quite a few to my RSS list!

And if you aren’t a Digital Eve member yet, you should definitely think about joining. Go to their website, scroll down (if you’re on a laptop…) and click the big red ”Join Now” button.

Dear Subscribers,

My friend Charlie has being doing QA on my blog posts. Thank you, Charlie.

Charlie is one of my newer subscribers who subscribed directly to Debi’Z Blog. I, on the other hand (together with most of you), subscribed to my blog in it’s previous incarnation (Debi’Z QA Blog). I subscribed to be able to do my own QA (don’t laugh).

Anyway, my attempt to transfer all you “oldies” over to the new blog seems to have worked except for the following:

Charlie sends me an email saying “there’s no title in your blog posts”

I go onto the Google Help site for Feedburner (the application that manages feeds and subscribers)

It has almost 7000 questions !

I spend 2 days discussing the problem with Franklin Tse [Community Expert] from Hong Kong

He helps me – I fix it

I look at my subscriber numbers, and most of them are missing …

I spend another 2 days discussing the problem with Franklin Tse [Community Expert]

He helps me again – I fix it (and he tells me that within 72 hours “I should see a big change”)

Charlie sends me an email saying “the title is now Debi’Z QA Blog”

I go back onto Google Feedburner help, and send out an SOS

No reply …

Charlie sends me an email saying “now it’s worse, I received the same post twice, once from Debi’Z Blog, and the other from Debi’Z QA Blog”

I reply to Charlie that “worse” would have been if he hadn’t received it at all …

I’m stuck.

My next direction is going to be Blogging experts (Miriam S. – you may get a call on Sunday).

So, this is why I’m apologizing.

I hope that you get my posts at least once, whether from Debi’Z Blog or from Debi’Z QA Blog.

If you get them from “”, I also apologize, but at least you get them.

If you get them twice or three times, ditto

If you don’t get them at all, I doubly apologize (actually, you probably aren’t reading this if you don’t get my posts, so I don’t really need to apologize to you do I?)

And now, the CALL TO ACTION.

If you subscribed to Debi’Z Blog, you don’t need to do anything, except grin and bear it. I’ve been told that by mid-August everything should sort itself out (please G-d).

If you subscribed to Debi’Z QA Blog, (hint – it would have been before the 17th of July), then I need you to subscribed again to Debi’Z Blog. Otherwise, in mid-August, when my old blog is deleted from the blogosphere, you will stop getting my posts. If you aren’t sure, subscribe anyway – better safe than sorry.

Please follow Charlie’s lead, and let me know if anything strange is happenning with my posts. PLEASE.

Thank you all, and have a good weekend

A few days ago, I wrote a post called “100′s of tips to increase RSS subscribers“. The “100′s” was my estimate for the amount of tips that would be posted to the group project.

Well, sorry all, but in the end there were “just” 78 unique tips - I guess quite a few people wrote in the same things.

Still, 78 great tips is a fantastic resource for anyone trying to improve their blog subsriber numbers.

Actually, I really suggest that you read them, even if you aren’t into blogging yet, since quite a few of these tips are relevant for promoting a regular website, as well as a blog.

As I wrote in that post, I managed to get 10 tips into the project, by the skin of my teeth – literally at the last minute before the project closed. 3 of them were unique, so I ended up 8th in the list, out of 13 bloggers who sent in tips, which isn’t bad, considering that any technique that was mentioned more than once was associated with the first person who wrote in !!

Just in case you thought that that was the end, well, no it isn’t. The next stage in this thing is to vote for the tip (or blogger) who you thought was best. Or at least, you can vote for one of MY tips!! You can recognize them by the purplish RSS sign in front of my tips, together with my name.

To vote for me or one of my tips, go to this page, and add a comment voting for one of my tips.

Thanks a lot

To my Dear QA subscribers, I PROMISE to get back to the rest of the SEETest 2008 posts, and other QA and Test related posts, so bear with me, and I hope that these digressions are at least entertaining, if not also useful

To my Dear non-QA subscribers – I PROMISE to keep adding SEO, Blogging and other bits and bobs, so don’t go away

I have exactly 45 minutes (wasted 45 already …) to write a post with tips to increase the number of RSS subscribers to a blog or website. What are RSS subscribers? They are people who are interested in what you write, and want to hear more, without having to guess when you have written anything new.

You can subscribe to a website or blog either by email, in which case you’ll receive updates directly to your inbox, or you can set yourself up with an RSS reader, which gathers all your new subscribed-to stuff, and you can go look at it all whenever you want. It’s pretty easy, and here are the instructions to set up an RSS reader. I use Netvibes, by the way, but you can use any others.

So, why do I have just 40 minutes (another 5 gone …) ?

Because that’s the extended deadline to add some of my own tips to the Building RSS Group Writing Project being run by Jacob Share, who generously gave me the extra time The idea of this project is that lots of bloggers write in with their tips for increasing subscribers (aka Readers), and all those great tips get put into an ebook. Everyone who writes a tip gets a mention in the ebook, too, so that in itself is a bonus. Plus there are quite a lot of blog-friendly prizes.

Most of these tips I have to say thanks to my Blogging Teacher, Miriam Schwab of Illuminea, who got me onto the whole blogging thing (just 3 weeks ago!!!). And a couple of them are my own
Some are pretty basic, and some not so much…

So, what tips can I add (although I don’t actually do them all myself …):

Write beneficial posts that people will want to read and comment on

Choose your niche, and stay focused.

Choose your style, and stick with it

Shorter posts more often are better than long ones every now and again

Even if you write short posts, add a longer one “pillar” post once in a while

Use opportunities like speaking at conferences to promote your blog. I just did that a couple of weeks ago – I gave a conference talk, and included a competition. I told the attendees that the answers would be on the blog.

Use images and videos, but aim them at the audience

Campaign for causes

Do research and post results, with real numbers, not just “feelings”

People love lists - write about “the 10 best”, “the 25 worst”, “5 Tips for Getting Your First (SEO) clients“, and stuff like that.

There are loads more, but I’ve run out of time, so that’s it.

So, where are the other 90+ tips, you may ask? Easy peasy – go over to Jacob’s Building RSS Group Writing Project, and be there when he posts the results!
