www.debi-z.com goes live!
Dear Friends,
I was just about to go to bed tonight (or rather, this morning!), when I received an email from my blog.
“Strange”, I thought, “I haven’t written anything for a while…”.
Then the penny dropped (or the “asimon” for those of us who lived in Israel before the days of mobile phones).
My site, www.debi-z.com (or debi-z.com, for those who can’t be bothered with the www), went live yesterday evening, so I guess that resent my latest blog posts !!
It’s taken a long time, mostly because I’ve been busy doing other things, but now it’s up and running.
So, a few thank you’s along the way: first and foremost to the formidable Rebecca Markowitz of illuminea, who was cool, calm and collected throughout the months of my changing my mind and driving her nuts, and without whom this site would not exist. Miriam Schwab, who created illuminea, and who agreed to do my site in the first place, and only once gave me a small nudge about finishing it off. Thanks to my logo go to Edna Segev, who I also drove a bit nuts getting the colour of each dot just right …., and last but not least, to my right hand lady, Aviva Blumstein, for translations, rewriting titles, descriptions, and all manner of other things.
Now, whoever said that “the enemy of good is better” is absolutely right!
So, there are loads of things that still need to be fixed here: the keyword density of some of pages is horrendous, not all the titles and descriptions are what I would like them to be, the internal link structure could be improved, there are “H1″s missing all over the place, and some of the texts could do with a major facelift. I need to add some pictures (with their accompanying “alt”s), and some videos (that’s for the future). The “noindex, nofollow” that let us work on the site without the search bots finding it, are still there (but they should all be gone by the end of the day), one of the navigation bars is not pretty, and I’m sure that quite a few of you can add to this list.
In fact, why don’t I let you all add to the list?
Brilliant idea – you can all test the site and let me know in the comments below what else you’ve found that I need to fix.
I’ll even think up a cool prize for the person who gives me the most or best feedbacks!
So, please do let me know what you think of the site, thanks for sticking around, and looking forward to seeing you on my next post (if you sign up for my RSS feed, of course!)

You are more of SEO expert than I am, but I wonder if having static content above the fold is the best practice. Given, I use a 10 inch screen..
By the way – you heard it here first: HASEO – Human and Search Engine Optimization.
Also, I got news of this launch via feedburner (great service, I subscribe to at least three or four blogs through it) and at first I couldn’t figure out where to post my comments! Worth considering…
Thanks for such a nice thank you and I’m glad you’re having fun playing with your new site!
It’s a pleasure, on both counts!
Since I’d already commented, I get an email alert when someone else comments. Nice feature, thanks WordPress.
I see Debi that you offer
(or debi-z.com, for those who can’t be bothered with the www)
I learned something important from my (our) friend Shimshon Young of http://www.excellenceweb.com/
Not only is the www important, but http://www.
type, it usually is not bothersome to readers imho and making sure that I (a reader) can click on a link instead of copypasting (ugh!) is the winner for me.
is important as well. Some emails will not pick up and automatically turn it into a link unless you do this. While an extra seven or eleven characters might bug some people, and makes it that many more characters for you to slavingly
my 2c
I also noticed that you did not tag this entry with the word “contest.” You might consider that.
(this is also a thinly veiled hint:-)
Sorry, Gidon, but I am at a loss to understand why I would tag this entry with “contest”.
Good point you bring up, which is why I always use the full http://www.debi-z.com in emails, links, etc.
The “without www” is aimed more at people who type the domain into their browser, and want to do it quickly, or don’t remember whether it has www or not.

That sounds like a contest to me…
That was so nice of you to thank us publicly like that! So thanks for the thanks!
